About Us
The Research Group on Experimental Cartography (RGEC) aims to create methods to quantify people’s map reading skills and measure the relative information quantity of maps. This may lead us to create digital “individualized” maps that change their appearance according to the map readers’ age, gender and map reading experience by displaying the map content to the user in the most understandable form.
The group's scientific work was financed from the grant of the Council for Talent Management at Eötvös Loránd University for multidisciplinary research (2015).
Researchers
Dr. Gáspár Albert
Gáspár is the leader of the research group. His work is to create the research plans, coordinate and administer the researches, but his job also includes creating scientific publications and reports.Other scientific publications onResearchGate
Virág Ilyés
Virág’s work is to conduct the tests utilized in the researches, and to evaluate the results. She also participates in the writing of scientific publications and reports.Dávid Kis
Dávid’s job is to create the website’s graphic design, and to make an evaluation software, that can calculate the individualized map’s parameters with the results of the map reading tests. To do so, he follows Csaba’s guidelines of cartographic designs.Márton Pál
His tasks include the examination of the map displays in published media, the related data collecting activity and the data evaluation. He also participates in the preparation of scientific publications of the research group.Csaba Szigeti
Csaba’s work is to create the maps used in the tests, planning the database containing the test results and improving the experimental map keys accordingly with the latest results. He also participates in the writing of scientific publications and reports.Dávid Várkonyi
